Taking small but impactful steps to reduce your single-use plastic consumption is a great way to do your bit for the environment.
Plastic pollution and the ocean
From wet wipes to cigarette filters and ‘paper’ cups, many of the products we use every day contain hidden (and not-so-hidden) plastics.
The properties which make plastic so appealing for producers - it is durable and lightweight - also mean plastics remain in the environment for hundreds or even thousands of years.
Did you know, 80% of ocean plastics come from land-based sources? When plastic makes its way to our coasts and seas, it has a devastating impact on the ocean and all those who call it home.
With plastic pollution an ongoing and increasing concern for many, we're continuing our calls for ambitious legislation from UK governments to phase out needless single-use plastic. From carrier bag charges to single-use plastic cotton bud bans, better wet wipe labelling and the proposal of a Deposit Return Scheme for drinks containers, we're working hard to encourage a transition to a circular economy, one which prioritises reuse.
We believe that individual actions to reduce single-use plastics should be supported by policy, to make avoiding single-use plastics easier.
