Go your own way
It's not always easy to take part in an organised event. Be it the date, terrain, distance, or the travel, there may be too many obstacles for you to take part. This is why we're encouraging you to create your own challenge. Run, walk, cycle, wheel; whatever way suits you, just choose your distance and get fundraising.

Suggested distance: 1K, 5K, 10K, half marathon or full marathon
Cost: It's free! Just choose a fundraising target that suits you. We recommend a minimum of £150.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Hold a fun run - dress up in costumes and give a prize to the best-dressed runner
- Organise a sports day - include a number of different races such as a relay, an egg and spoon race, obstacle race etc.
- Plan a personal marathon - you don't have to run by yourself
- Host a hike with friends
- Have a doggy race - Host a jog with your favourite furry friend
- Join a Santa dash, or start your own.
Top tips:
- Encourage others to join you
- Make it accessible - consider those joining you, is your activity suitable for everyone?
- Remember to risk assess your route - you can find example risk assessments with a little online research. A good place to start is your local running club. Things to consider are traffic, uneven terrain, members health and/or ability, animals and livestock, and weather conditions.
- Suggest a minimum donation to take part in your event
- Check you have permission if running across private land
- If you're organising a public event, make sure you're in touch with the local council and police, have a team of volunteers to help on race day, and have risk assessed the route.
