Deposit Return Scheme Fan Club
With bottles and cans littering 96% of surveyed beaches across the UK last year, we are extremely excited for Deposit Return Schemes to start across the UK in October 2027!
This page highlights organisations and community groups who are also excited for the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) to begin; helping to reduce litter in the environment, increase recycling rates and move us closer to a circular economy.

Marine Conservation Society
We want to stop bottles and cans littering our beaches, polluting our seas and harming our marine wildlife. Other countries have seen drinks-related litter decrease on their beaches after the Scheme has started and that is why we’re a big fan of DRS!"

Keep Britain Tidy
Through projects like the single-use carrier bag charge, we’ve shown that intervention on litter can clean up our communities and be hugely popular with the public. DRS is going to not only help keep Britain tidy but will change the way we look at packaging – not as something to be thrown away carelessly, but as containing valuable materials that can be used again and again.”
Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, CEO
Keep Wales Tidy
We also welcome the ambition shown by Welsh Government to build reuse into the scheme. By cutting out single-use items and promoting more sustainable choices, it will deliver benefits not only today but for future generations too."
Owen Derbyshire, Chief Executive
Reloop
Based on our knowledge of existing and upcoming programmes, we expect that by the end of 2027, more than 70 places around the world—covering approximately 641 million people—will have operational DRS programmes for single-use drinks containers. It’s time for the UK to be part of this movement, and reap the benefits of less litter, higher quality recycling, green jobs and reduced carbon emissions."
