Formby Beachwatch New Year Beach Clean and Litter Survey
Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.
Join the Marine Conservation Society for a family-friendly beach clean and litter survey at the National Trust's beautiful Formby beach.
All ages welcome. Under 16's will need to be accompanied by an adult. As there is a cap on the number of people I can provide equipment for, please register your interest so you don't miss out.
Equipment:
All equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own gloves if you prefer (gardening gloves are fine). Please dress for the weather and bring comfortable footwear. Water in a reusable bottle is advised (beach cleaning can be thirsty work!)
Getting to the clean:
MCS encourage sustainable transport to beach cleans wherever possible. Formby Freshfield station is a 30 minute walk from the beach. Click here to find train times. Cycle racks are available next to the entrance at Victoria Road.
By Road: Victoria Road car park is 2 miles off A565. Follow brown signs with National Trust logo “Formby Point” from roundabout at north end of Formby bypass by the BP petrol station.
Sat Nav: Victoria Road car park entrance at grid reference SD281082: use postcode L37 1LJ.
Parking: Width restriction 3 metres. PLEASE NOTE: Victoria Road car park can become full very quickly on sunny weekend days. Consider taking public transport, walking or cycling from Formby or arriving earlier in the day to secure a parking spot.
Weather:
Winter in the UK brings with it colder, less predictable weather: If the 3-day forecast is showing particularly bad weather on the day of the clean, volunteers who have registered will receive notice of cancellation via email at least 24 hours ahead of time. Please do check your emails if the weather forecast is looking bad.
Hope to see you there!
Also worth knowing…
What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).
What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.
Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
31 spaces remaining - join us on the beach whilst there’s still spaces!
