Find out what the HYYM team got up to in December, from a session on marine conservation careers and an eco-Christmas craft event, to celebrating an award winner.

Christmas crafts and farewell

December marked the final few weeks with Nat, the wonderful HYYM Project Support. She led the designing, planning and delivery of an eco-Christmas crafts event at Costigans in Rhyl, where participants spent the afternoon crafting Christmas decorations out of second-hand materials! The team also had the opportunity to speak to local MP Gill German about their work through HYYM and the impact it’s having on the local community.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Nat for all her hard work and commitment that she gave to the HYYM project.

Careers in marine conservation

Throughout November and December, the HYYM team worked closely with Project Barod at Working Denbighshire, which supports Denbighshire residents aged 16 or over to overcome barriers, like low motivation or wellbeing challenges, and get back into work or training. The HYYM team delivered a session on marine conservation careers and the different routes to entering the sector, which included a presentation from Nat on her conservation career.

A well-deserved award winner

One Ocean Forum member Autumn-Rose Bradley won the Ocean Optimist Award for the under 12 category due to her fantastic work helping look after her local coast and sea as part of the HYYM Project. Autumn-Rose recorded an acceptance speech which was shown at the Marine Conservation Society’s Annual General Meeting and can be watched here.
