Sewage, road run off and water quality
Water pollution affects the health of our ocean as well as the habitats and marine wildlife that call the ocean home. To create a healthier sea, we must improve water quality measures.
Raw sewage is a major cause for water pollution as it contains so much nasty pollutants including germs and undegradable sewage debris that get flushed out to sea causing illness and untold damage to the coastal environment. Pollutant run off from roads can also be washed into sewers and soaked into the ground, where it can cause harm to the local wildlife as it makes it way through our rivers and sewage pipes into the open ocean.
By improving water quality and sewage discharge, we can help our local fauna and flora recover as well as create more hygienic seas to bathe in.
Sewage pollution
Raw sewage contains a cocktail of bacteria, viruses, harmful chemicals, and microplastics. This is a disaster for our ocean.
Wet wipes and sewage debris
Wet wipes and other sanitary items like pads and tampons end up on our beaches and in the environment as they’re often mistakenly flushed down the toilet.
Water quality
For more than 30 years we've campaigned for better water quality at our coast.
Sewage sludge
Sewage sludge might seem an unexpected topic of discussion when it comes to the health of our oceans, but it’s actually incredibly relevant. Read on to discover the dangers and find out what action is needed.
Road runoff
Road runoff poses a threat to the marine environment. Where does it come from, and what can be done to stop it?
