Trustee Seth Richardson takes part in epic challenge

Marine Conservation Society trustee Seth Richardson is competing in the Three Peaks Yacht Race: one of the toughest multi-sport endurance races in the world.

This year's race runs from 19 June to 26 June 2021.

About the Three Peaks Yacht Race

Every year, teams of runners and sailors push themselves to the limit as they sail up Britain's west coast from Barmouth to Fort William, scaling the summits of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in a race against time.

The non-stop gruelling event involves sailing or rowing 389 miles through some of the UK's most difficult waters, running 54.8 miles, cycling 40 miles and climbing 16,500 vertical feet over the course of three to four action-packed days.

Now in its 43rd year, the Three Peaks Yacht Race attracts competitors from diverse backgrounds, from round-the-world sailors and triathletes to military and corporate teams.

The first event, in 1977, featured just seven yachts. Since then over 500 teams have taken part, including renowned sailors Robin Knox Johnston, Bob Fisher and Skip Novak, and legendary fell runner Joss Naylor.

This year we're proudly following the progress of one of our Marine Conservation Society trustees, Seth Richardson, who's raising money to help protect our oceans.

Skipper and novice runner, Seth is accompanied by team mates Alan Hyne-Jones (dedicated sailor), Richard Harrison (sailor and novice runner), Peter Hutchinson (runner and novice sailor) and Chris Fischer (dedicated runner) with shore support provided by Janice and Bill Richardson.

The team must complete the following stages:

Stage 1: Barmouth to Caernarfon and Snowdon (62 sea miles, 24.5 land miles)

Stage 2: Caernarfon to Whitehaven and Scafell Pike (100 sea miles, 53 land miles)

Stage 3: Whitehaven to Fort William and Ben Nevis (227 sea miles, 17.8 land miles)

Just to make it a bit harder, they're also entering the Tilman Cup which means four out of the five crew need to reach the summit of at least one of the peaks.

Fundraising

The team is personally paying for any race costs, so all money raised goes directly to the Marine Conservation Society. Net Natives have agreed to match fund all money raised so any contributions will have twice the impact.
