2 minute read

Start the new year by taking on a challenge for the ocean in 2026. The more people who fundraise for us, the more we can do to help the ocean. We've rounded up some of events from around the UK you can get involved in - Seas The Day and choose your challenge.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced, live inland or by the coast, there are loads of events you can get involved in.

Marathons and half marathons for running-lovers

The Bath Half Marathon , which takes place on March 15th 2026, is a 'big city' race, starting and finishing in the World Heritage City of Bath. Suitable for all abilities, this course is fast, with proven potential to set a new personal best.

If you need more time to train, then the Cardiff Half Marathon on 4th October 2026 might be the one for you. It's grown into one of Europe’s largest half marathons and is Wales’ largest mass participation and multi-charity fundraising event. The route takes runners past the capital’s most iconic landmarks with beautiful scenery and historic buildings.

For those looking for a London adventure, the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 11th October 2026 is one of the greenest races in the UK. Run through 4 of the Royal Parks: Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens, it's a brilliant event - you can register your interest with us by emailing fundraising@mcsuk.org

If it's a full marathon challenge that you're looking for, then take a look at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Taking place on 24th May 2026, it's the biggest running festival in Scotland and the second biggest in the UK. Fast and flat, this course was voted the fastest marathon in the UK by Runners World.

Incredible experience and even more worthwhile knowing that I got a chance to contribute to the great work that the Marine Conservation Society are doing.

Swims and treks for something different

If swimming is your thing, The Great North Swim, taking place on 12th June 2026, is a great way to challenge yourself. It brings thousands of people together for a unique weekend of open water swimming, community, and Lake District beauty. Expect a fully supported course, a festival atmosphere, incredible views and a shared sense of achievement. It's a popular event, so don't miss out! Email us at fundraising@mcsuk.org to register your interest today.

For those looking for a slower pace, there are a number of fabulous treks to get stuck into. The Jurassic Coast Trek on 3rd July 2026 is a two day journey from Peveril Point to the beautiful Kimmeridge Beach. Dip your toes in the sea and search for fossils among the ancient rocks - all while raising money for the Marine Conservation Society! If you're a night owl then you could try the Snowdon by Night Trek on 1st August 2026. By using torches to light the way and having the moon as a backdrop, summiting at night brings an extra sense of achievement.
