Homemade 'hands' to flood UK climate summit with a #WaveOfHope

As Glasgow gears up to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November, we're supporting the 'Wave of Hope' campaign to fight for climate justice and a cleaner, healthier ocean.
What is the Wave of Hope?
When leaders of the world's wealthiest nations get together at the COP26 conference in Scotland later this year, important decisions will be made that will have a critical impact on our people and planet for generations to come.
The Marine Conservation Society is joining a campaign led by Crack the Crisis – a coalition of more than 70 organisations from across the UK – calling on global leaders to address the world's biggest crises and work together for a recovery that:
- provides vaccines and healthcare for all
- fights poverty and injustice
- helps end the climate and nature crisis.
With so many powerful politicians all in one place, we want to make sure our messages of hope are heard.
We've created our own waving seal to support the #waveofhope campaign
How to join in
The campaign is calling for people throughout the UK to put up 'homemade hands' with messages of hope in our windows. Photos of the hands will be added to a gallery and displayed at the COP26 summit to show that we stand united.
The waving hands symbolise our connection to each other – and also a growing momentum (or 'wave') of change. As the wave builds, and more people speak up and take action for a better future, our wave of hope builds too.
You don't have to be creative to get involved. You'll find everything you need in the Wave of Hope supporter guide – which includes step-by-step instructions, ideas, inspiration and templates.
- Gather your materials – ideally recycled, such as cereal boxes, old envelopes, crisp packets or newspapers
- Get crafty – draw, trace or print a hand or anything that reflects your connection with nature (feel free to add a marine twist!)
- Add your message of hope – spread some positivity about your hope for our ocean
- Take a photo and share it online – post your photo on social media with the hashtags #WaveOfHope and #mcsuk
- Display your handiwork – put your artwork up in your window to inspire your local community
- Keep the wave going – encourage others to get involved or take part as a community group.
