
Competition terms and conditions
This page sets out terms and conditions for competitions we run.
Current competitions
- The Seaweed Photography Competition is open to people aged 18 and over who post a seaweed themed photograph on their Instagram or Facebook account using the hashtag #SeaweedSearchPhoto between 00:01 on the 26th July 2025 and 23:59 on the 3rd August 2025.
- Entrants must be the original creators of the submitted photographs.
- Open to UK entrants only.
- Multiple entries are allowed. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted.
- The Prize Draw closes at 23:59 on 3rd of August 2025, photo submissions received after this time will not be considered.
- By entering the competition, you grant the Marine Conservation Society and the Natural History Museum a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence to use, reproduce, display, and distribute your submitted photographs in any media, including but not limited to:
- Social media
- Websites
- Reports and publications
- You will always be credited as the photographer wherever reasonably possible.
- If your photo includes identifiable individuals, you must have obtained their permission (or their parent/guardian’s permission if under 18) to be photographed and to have their image used in accordance with these terms.
- The Marine Conservation Society accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, cannot be delivered or entered due to technical issues or other reasons beyond its control. Proof of delivery of the entry is not proof of receipt by the Marine Conservation Society.
- The winners will be chosen by a judging panel at the Natural History Museum and Marine Conservation Society in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. The decision of the judges is final.
- There will be a single winner, who will receive a marine themed gift from the Natural History Museum. No purchase is necessary.
- The Marine Conservation Society accepts no responsibility for any costs not specified as part of the prize. There will be no cost for postage.
- The winners will be notified by Direct Message. If a winner does not respond to the Marine Conservation Society within 7 days of being notified, the prize will be forfeited, and the Marine Conservation Society will then select an alternate winner using the same selection process.
- The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes.
- The Marine Conservation Society will use and protect any personal information provided in accordance with its privacy policy and applicable data protection laws. By entering the competition, you agree to the collection, retention, usage and distribution of your personal information in order to process and contact you about your competition entry.
- The Marine Conservation Society reserves the right to modify or discontinue this competition, temporarily or permanently, with or without prior notice due to reasons beyond its control including but not limited to anticipated, suspected or actual fraud. The decision of the Marine Conservation Society in all matters under its control is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
- This competition is in no way affiliated with Facebook, Instagram or Meta.
- The competition will be governed by English law and entrants to the competition submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
- Entrants into the competition shall be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.

- The Prize Draw is open to people aged 18 and over who respond to the MCS Volunteer Voices survey 2025 before midnight on the 30th June 2025.
- Employees or agencies of the Marine Conservation Society, their family members or anyone else connected with the Prize Draw may not enter.
- Entrants into the Prize Draw shall be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
- To enter the Prize Draw, you must respond to the Marine Conservation Society’s Volunteer Voice Survey. No purchase is necessary. If you have any questions about how to enter or in connection with the Prize Draw, please e-mail us at beachwatch@mcsuk.org.
- Only one entry to the prize draw per person, entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted.
- The Marine Conservation Society accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, cannot be delivered or entered due to technical issues or other reasons beyond its control. - The Prize Draw closes at 23:59 on 30th of June 2025, survey responses received after this time will not be considered.
- The winners will be chosen at random in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
- There will be three prizes of a £30 Marine Conservation Society single use shop voucher which can be redeemed at mcsshop.org.uk
- Any beach clean volunteers wishing to ‘opt out’ of the Prize Draw may do so by e-mailing us at beachwatch@mcsuk.org.
- The Marine Conservation Society accepts no responsibility for any costs not specified as part of the prize.
- The winners will be notified by email. If a winner does not respond to the Marine Conservation Society within 28 days of being notified, the prize will be forfeited, and the Marine Conservation Society will then select an alternate winner using the same random selection process.
- The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes.
- The Marine Conservation Society retains the right to substitute the prize with another prize of similar value in the event the original prize offered is not available.
- The Marine Conservation Society will use and protect any personal information you provide in accordance with its privacy policy and applicable data protection laws. By entering the Prize Draw, you agree to the collection, retention, usage and distribution of your personal information in order to process and contact you about your Prize Draw entry.

- The Prize Draw is open to people aged 18 and over who register a Great British Beach Clean 2025 event on the Marine Conservation Society’s website by 23:59 on the 31st July 2025.
- Employees or agencies of the Marine Conservation Society, their family members or anyone else connected with the Prize Draw are not eligible to enter.
- Entrants into the Prize Draw shall be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
- To enter the Prize Draw, you must register a beach clean on the Marine Conservation Society’s website for the Great British Beach Clean, which takes place between 19th-28th September 2025. No purchase is necessary. If you have any questions about how to enter or in connection with the Prize Draw, please e-mail us at beachwatch@mcsuk.org.
- Only one entry to the prize draw per person; entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted.
- The Marine Conservation Society accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, cannot be delivered or entered due to technical issues or other reasons beyond its control. - The Prize Draw closes at 23:59 on 31st of July 2025, beach clean registrations received after this time will not be considered.
- The winner will be chosen at random in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
- There will be one prize of a £50 Marine Conservation Society single use shop voucher which can be redeemed at mcsshop.org.uk
- Any beach clean organisers wishing to ‘opt out’ of the Prize Draw may do so by e-mailing us at beachwatch@mcsuk.org.
- The Marine Conservation Society accepts no responsibility for any costs not specified as part of the prize.
- The winners will be notified by email. If a winner does not respond to the Marine Conservation Society within 28 days of being notified, the prize will be forfeited, and the Marine Conservation Society will then select an alternate winner using the same random selection process.
- The prize will be delivered to the winner via email to the address provided during registration. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that their contact details are accurate and up to date.
- The name and county of the winner may be published on the Marine Conservation Society’s website and/or social media channels. By entering the Prize Draw, entrants agree to this publicity unless they notify the Marine Conservation Society otherwise.
- The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes.
- The Marine Conservation Society retains the right to substitute the prize with another prize of similar value in the event the original prize offered is not available.
- The Marine Conservation Society shall use, and take care of, any personal information you supply as described in its privacy policy and in accordance with data protection legislation. By entering the Prize Draw, you agree to the collection, retention, usage and distribution of your personal information in order to process and contact you about your Prize Draw entry.
