Sutton on Sea (South) public beach clean
Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.
Come and join us here at Sutton on Sea for a beach clean!
Meeting point and time: We'll meet on Bohemia Promenade in front of the children's paddling pool at 10.30am.
What to expect: I'll be running the clean on behalf of the Marine Conservation Society. We'll have a quick welcome and debrief once everyone arrives before heading down to the beach.
We'll clean and survey a 100m stretch of beach to provide accurate and valuable data on the litter types found - this helps us campaign for single-use plastic policies like the ban on carrier bags and cutlery.
We can then spread out along the beach for a wider clean. I plan to finish around 12 but if you can only join us for some of the time, you are still more than welcome!
What to bring: Litter pickers, bin bags and gloves will be provided. Depending on the weather, we recommend you bring a few essentials such as sunscreen / waterproofs and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).
What to wear: Dress for the weather. You can bring your own gardening gloves to make sure you're protected when picking up litter, but I'll have some you can borrow on the day. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.
Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email rachael.willson@mcsuk.org and I'll be happy to answer them.
I look forward to seeing you then, Rachael
