Penarth Beach Clean and Survey

We will clean the beach and survey stretches both sides of Penarth Pier and around the Dinosaur Footprints. We will reuse, repurpose or recycle everything we find.

The plan: meet at 10.45 a.m by Penarth Pier Pavillion. There will be a short briefing, equipment will be handed out and the cleaning will start at 11.00 a.m. You can take part in some general cleaning of the beach, in one of the three litter surveys we'll be doing, or in both the cleaning and the surveying. We normally work in groups of two or three to pick, bag and record what is found. We aim to finish cleaning at 12 p.m and we are aiming to be away by 12.15pm after we've collected results, equipment and debriefed.

Getting here: Penarth Pier Pavillion three little words is on the Wales Coast Path and is easily accessible by foot. There are some bicycle parking facilities on The Esplanade, at Penarth Railway Station and in Penarth Town Centre. Penarth Pier Pavillion is a 10 minute walk from Penarth town centre, including bus stops and the railway station. There is on-road time-limited parking around The Esplanade and unlimited free parking at Cliff Parade Car Park.

Toilets: there are toilets at Penarth Pier Pavilion, on Penarth Pier and at Cliff Parade Car Park.

Dogs: not allowed on the beach between May 1st and September 30th 

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
