Come along and help with a mass litter pick of Minehead Beach. This is part of the Marine Conservation Society's Great British Beach Clean and is being run in conjunction with Plastic Free Minehead, Our Precious Earth, The Beach Hotel, Plastic Free Communities in West Somerset, Severn Estuary Partnership, Minehead and Coast Development Trust, Keep Britain Tidy and Surfers Against Sewage.

Starting off at the Beach Hotel, we will walk over to the beach opposite the Butlin’s main gate and funfair rides, and conduct a detailed survey (counting and weighing) of the different types of litter we pick up, so that we can add it to the MCS national database. Following the detailed survey, we will then carry out a general beach clean of Minehead beach, focusing on particular litter hotspot areas. At the end of the beach clean event, we will return back to The Beach Hotel to sort out all of the litter collected, and take it away for recycling / disposing of responsibly.

This event is also a great chance to find out about, share ideas and get involved in the Plastic Free Minehead, Plastic Free Exmoor and Plastic Free Communities in West Somerset campaigns.

We will provide litter pickers and sacks for collecting debris.

We recommend that volunteers bring a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs and sturdy footwear. We also advise volunteers to bring a strong pair of gloves for protection.

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
