Great British Beach Clean at Cold Knap Beach
Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.
Join the Marine Conservation Society for a family-friendly beach clean and litter survey in Barry.
All ages welcome. Under 16s will need to be accompanied by an adult. As there is a cap on the number of people I can provide equipment for, please register your interest so you don't miss out.
Dog-friendly event!
Equipment:
All equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own gloves if you prefer to (gardening gloves are fine). Please dress for the weather and bring comfortable footwear. Water in a reusable bottle is advised (beach cleaning can be thirsty work!)
Getting to the clean:
The Marine Conservation Society encourage sustainable transport to beach cleans wherever possible.
Public transport:
There are regular trains into Barry station - please bear in mind that it's a 21-minute walk from there to the beach. You can catch the B3 bus from Barry to the Knap (closest stop is Marine Lake) or the 96 to Barry (closest stop is Park Avenue).
Car:
Please car share where possible! There is a car park at the beach (Knap Terrace, CF62 6QP) or 10 minutes' walk away at Bron-Y-Mor car park (CF62 6SW).
Accessibility:
We want to ensure this event is as accessible as possible. Please talk to us ahead of booking if you have any health conditions, access needs or Special Educational Needs and we will do our best to support your participation. If you have any questions or access needs, please contact: mary.hayman@mcsuk.org.
The beach is rocky and can be quite unsteady underfoot, so please bear this in mind.
Toilets:
Public toilets are available next to the beach.
Hope to see you there!

Note about the beach after a beach clean conducted here on 24.04.2022 -
- There is a steep pebble gradient from the middle of the beach down to the sea - volunteers need to be very careful if they want to go down to this location and it's recommended they wear sensible shoes.
Also worth knowing…
What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).
What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.
Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
19 spaces remaining - join us on the beach whilst there’s still spaces!
