Formby Beachwatch Summer Beach Clean and Litter Survey
Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.
***Limited spaces due to Victoria Road dune restoration project - please read further details below***
Join the Marine Conservation Society for a beach clean and litter survey at the National Trust's beautiful Formby beach. All ages welcome. Under 16's will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Please note, due to the ongoing Victoria Road dune restoration project, we can currently only accomodate 9 cars for this beach clean - hence this is reflected in the number of spots available.
If there are still spots available and you want to arrive as a family/friendship group in a single car, please email me directly at: clare.trotman@mcsuk.org and I'll be able to add you all to the list.
Additionally, if you are able to arrive by public transport, or on foot or bike, do also get in touch with me at: Clare.Trotman@mcsuk.org and, again, I can list you seperately.
***Please do not turn up on the day if you have not registered/emailed me directly first and had a response, as car parking space is very limited for this clean***
Equipment:
All equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own gloves if you prefer (gardening gloves are fine). Please dress for the weather and bring comfortable footwear. Water in a reusable bottle is advised (beach cleaning can be thirsty work!)
Getting to the clean:
MCS encourage sustainable transport to beach cleans wherever possible. Formby Freshfield station is a 30 minute walk or short cycle from the beach. Click here to find train times.
Parking: Details for parking will be provided closer to the clean to those who have registered. Again, as the National Trust is kindly letting us use some of their reserved parking for the clean, you must register on here to secure one of these limited parking spaces, or arrive by foot/bike)
Weather:
The UK brings with it unpredictable weather: If the short-range forecast is showing particularly bad weather on the day of the clean, volunteers who have registered will receive notice of cancellation via email at least 24 hours ahead of time. Please do check your emails if the weather forecast is looking bad.
Hope to see you there!
Also worth knowing…
What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).
What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.
Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
Sorry, there are no spaces remaining
