Volunteers from the East Cornwall & West Devon (ECWD) network of the Crohns & Colitis UK charity will be hosting a Beach Clean and Litter Survey at Wembury Beach on Saturday 9th August 2025. The event will be led by Connor Davies, who will be wearing a blue MCS high-vis vest on the day!

The event is open to everyone – whether you're passionate about protecting the environment, supporters of the Crohn’s and Colitis charity or those looking to meet others in the IBD community.

The beach clean will involve cleaning up litter and recording what we find along a 100m stretch of the beach. We’ll provide a selection of equipment to borrow (litter pickers, bags, clipboards, gloves), but feel free to bring your own if you prefer!

  • Meeting Point: Wembury Beach, Wembury, Devon, PL9 0HP
  • Date: Saturday 9th August 2025
  • Start Time: 9:00 AM (please arrive 15 mins early)
  • Estimated Duration: 1-2hrs – no pressure to stay the whole time
  • Facilities: Car park (JustPark app), Toilets, Café
  • Note: Dogs are NOT allowed on the beach between 1st May– 30th September
  • What to Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, suncream, suitable footwear

When you arrive, look out for the high-vis vests! We will welcome the volunteer group upon arrival, explain how to complete the litter survey and hand out any equipment. Once the clean is complete, we'll weigh the litter and give ourselves a well-deserved pat on the back after our efforts!

The event is free to attend, and we’ll also have a donation box available on the day for those wishing to contribute to the Crohn’s & Colitis Charity!

Note: A limited number of litter pickers, gloves, bags, and clipboards will be available to borrow on the day. Please note that equipment may need to be shared, so feel free to bring your own if you have any!

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.

17 spaces remaining - join us on the beach whilst there’s still spaces!
